Well, each season in Paris has its own unique charm, and it can be challenging to choose the best time to experience the city.
As someone who has lived in this city for almost five years, I’ve seen Paris in all its seasonal splendor, and can confidently say that each time of year brings a different vibe to the city.
In this article, we’ll explore the pros and cons of each season and when the best time to visit is depending on what you want to see and do to help you choose the best time for your Parisian holiday.

One major thing to consider before book your Paris trip: the weather.
Paris is cold and grey for a good six months out of the year, whereas the other six months see mild to even sometimes scorching temperatures.
So if umbrellas and layers aren’t your thing, you might want to plan your trip in one of the warmer months.
Let’s take a deep dive into Paris’ seasons and what temperatures to expect for each month:
Spring in Paris: Flowers and Pleasant Temperatures
Springtime in Paris is the best. The city wakes up after a long winter, and I simply adore this season.
From March to May, Paris enjoys mild temperatures around 50-60℉ (10-15℃), perfect for sightseeing and park picnics.
The parks and streets become magical with blossoming flowers and trees. Trust me, a walk through Tuileries Garden is a must during springtime in Paris!
One fantastic place to visit during Parisian spring is the Jardin des Plantes, an enchanting botanical garden that blooms with roses, irises, and tulips. You can also get lost in their garden labyrinth or discover the Natural History Museum on site.
Just keep in mind those occasional spring showers, so pack a waterproof jacket and umbrella.

Summer in Paris: Sunshine and Outdoor Adventures
It’s no surprise that summer is when tourists flock to our lovely city. The days are longer, the weather is warmer, and the overall vibe of the city is more upbeat and fun than the preceding months.
From June to August, Paris basks in warm weather, averaging 70-80℉ (20-27℃).
This makes it an ideal time for exploring Paris on foot or by bike. It’s also the time of year when Paris Plages makes its annual debut, and the Seine River turns into a makeshift beach for the summer.
However, be prepared for large crowds and long queues in the summer, especially at attractions like the Eiffel Tower and the Louvre.
If you’re planning to visit during summer, book your accommodations and attractions well in advance – especially if you’re planning on visiting in 2024! With the upcoming Paris Olympics taking place in July through August of this year, Paris is expected to see an influx of over 16 million tourists and accommodation is selling out fast.
As a local tip, use one of our 38 public swimming pools to cool off, including the popular Piscine Josephine Baker, which floats on the Seine River.

If you’re craving a quieter experience, Autumn is a fantastic time to visit Paris.
From September to November, you’ll be greeted by a beautiful landscape of oranges and yellows as temperatures drop to a comfy 50-60℉ (10-15℃).
Best of all, there are far fewer tourists!
I recommend a stroll through the picturesque Parc des Buttes-Chaumont during autumn. Its stunning fall foliage and hilly terrain make for a perfect afternoon walk, complete with a grotto, waterfall, and suspension bridge.
Winter in Paris: Christmas Markets and Shorter Days
Winter in Paris may be chilly, with temperatures plunging to 30℉ (-1℃), but it’s a magical time as the city shines with festive lights. Embrace our cold season by exploring ice skating rinks and Christmas markets.
Winter is also the best time to warm yourself up with some of the city’s famous hot chocolate, from cafés like Angelina or La Durée.
During your winter visit, make sure to drop by the Champs-Élysées Christmas market, where 200+ chalets offer crafts, food, and drinks. Plus, enjoy ice skating with a marvelous view of the Arc de Triomphe.
☔ In my opinion, winter is not an ideal time to visit Paris if you aren’t ready to embrace the cold weather and grey skies. Winter days are also much shorter than during the rest of the year, with the sun setting around 4 pm in peak winter.
Despite this, you can usually find some pretty good deals on flights and hotels during this time if you look far enough in advance!

I’ve seen countless celebrities and models wandering the city during this time, a testament to Paris’ status as a fashion capital.
Bastille Day (le 14 juillet)
On July 14th, France celebrates its national day, and Paris is the perfect place to join in the festivities. Bastille Day is often compared to America’s 4th of July, marked by parades, fireworks, and concerts. I can vouch for the lively and colorful atmosphere throughout the city – it’s truly an experience to remember!
Art and Culture at Nuit Blanche
For all the art lovers out there, I highly recommend planning your trip around Nuit Blanche. This annual event takes place in October and fills the city with contemporary art installations, performances, and exhibitions. The best part? It’s free to attend! As a longtime resident, I can’t get enough of the electric atmosphere this event brings to Paris.
Paris Jazz Festival
As someone who lives for good tunes, there’s nothing quite like the Paris Jazz Festival happening from June to July. Held in the scenic Parc Floral, this event brings in jazz musicians from around the globe.

In my experience, the cheapest time to visit Paris is during the winter months of January and February, as well as November, just before the Christmas season starts.
However, the cheapest time to visit Paris for you will likely vary depending on many factors, like where you’re flying from and how long you’re planning to stay.
Here’s a general overview of the most affordable times to visit Paris and a few ways to save some money even if you’re not visiting in the off-season:
Price Comparison by Season
I’ve found that the cost of accommodations in Paris can vary greatly depending on the time of year.
During the summer, prices tend to be considerably higher due to the influx of tourists. However, if you’re on a budget, the fall and winter months usually offer lower rates.
I’d recommend booking your stay during the off-peak season to save on hotel or Airbnb costs. In addition, consider budget-friendly alternatives like hostels or vacation rentals outside of the city center.
Cutting Costs on Transportation and Sightseeing
In my time living here, I’ve discovered that walking or cycling around Paris is the most affordable way to go sightseeing.

While indulging in French cuisine in Paris can be unforgettable, eating at posh restaurants can quickly add up.
I often opt for the city’s more affordable eats such as crepes, croissants, and traditional baguette sandwiches from street vendors and small cafes. These tasty offerings provide an authentic French culinary experience without breaking the bank.
Believe it or not, there are actually tons of affordable eating options around the city where you can get a good quality meal for cheap. Places like Miznon, Bouillon Chartier, and Mangez Et Cassez Vous are some of my favorites.
For a more upscale meal, consider going for lunch instead of dinner. Many restaurants offer prix-fixe (fixed price) menus at lower prices during the day.
Alternatively, search for restaurants with à la carte menu options for a more wallet-friendly way to sample French cuisine.
