Paris in spring – a time when the city of love supposedly blossoms into its finest form.

But let’s be real, planning a trip to Paris can feel like trying to solve a Rubik’s Cube blindfolded.

Between figuring out the labyrinthine metro system and navigating the endless sea of tourists, it’s enough to make you say “au revoir” before you’ve even packed your beret.

And let’s not start on the weather – will it rain, will it shine? Who knows!

Lucky for you, I’ve got your back. Having called Paris my home for four years (oui, with all its quirks and charms), I’ve navigated these cobbled streets more times than I can count.

In this article, we’ll delve into everything you need to know about visiting Paris in Spring – the must-visit spots that don’t feature in your average travel guide, how to decode the local dining etiquette, and I’ll even throw in some French phrases to help you blend in (or at least not stick out like a sore thumb).

This guide is your all-access pass to experiencing Paris in spring like a true Parisian!

Paris Weather in Spring

Spring in Paris is when the city awakens from its winter slumber, and the streets are filled with the scent of blooming flowers. It’s no wonder that many (including myself) consider this the best time to visit the City of Love.

During this season, you can be delighted by some of Paris’s prettiest hues with gardens and parks bursting into life.

⛅ While March might still feel a bit chilly, by late May, summer seems just around the corner, with temperatures averaging between 47°F in March and 60°F in May.

Here’s a convenient breakdown of Paris’ spring weather:

  • March: Highs of 54°F, Lows of 41°F
  • April: Highs of 61°F, Lows of 45°F
  • May: Highs of 68°F, Lows of 52°F

While clear spring days may give you that picture-perfect Instagram shot, don’t be surprised if you also encounter some rainy days.

What to Pack for a Springtime Trip to Paris

To make the most of your trip, it’s essential to come prepared with the right clothing and gear.

Here are some packing tips for spring weather in Paris:

  1. Pack layers, including a light jacket and sweaters, so you can adapt to the changing temperatures throughout the day.
  2. Include a mix of short and long-sleeved tops to cover the spectrum of weather possibilities.
  3. A compact, foldable umbrella is a must for those surprise spring showers.
  4. Comfortable, waterproof shoes are perfect for both walking and staying dry during your exploration of the city.

Best Things to Do in Paris in Spring

Gardens and Parks

Oh, the joie de vivre of Paris in spring! It’s the perfect season to enjoy the city’s famous gardens. One of the most beautiful places is the Luxembourg Gardens.

Grab a coffee and a fresh croissant from a nearby café and take a leisurely stroll to appreciate the vibrant flowers, exquisite fountains, and historic statues.

Another must-visit garden is the Tuileries Garden, located in central Paris. It’s a fantastic place for a picnic or to simply relax on a sunny day.

If you’re in the mood for a charming day trip, head down to Parc de Sceaux, known for its elegant chateau and breathtaking cherry blossoms.

Outdoor Sightseeing

Of course, no trip to Paris is complete without heading to the top of the Eiffel Tower. The views are spectacular, especially during spring when the city is in full bloom.

And if you can’t get tickets (they sell out months in advance), I’d recommend heading to the Arc de Triomphe and climbing up to the rooftop instead!

The views are just as good – if not better – because you can actually see the Eiffel Tower from up there.

A visit to the iconic Notre Dame Cathedral is also a must. As of now, it is still under construction after the 2019 fire, but it’s still worth seeing from the outside.

Walk along the Seine River for dazzling views of the cathedral, as well as the charming Île de la Cité.

I suggest exploring Le Marais and its cozy cobblestone streets. You’ll find delightful boutiques, art galleries, and scrumptious French cuisine. Don’t miss the Canal Saint-Martin area for a picturesque stroll or a charming boat ride along the canal.

Museums and Indoor Attractions

Art lovers rejoice! Spring is an ideal time to explore Paris’ museums.

My personal favorite is the Musée Rodin. Its lovely sculpture garden is perfect for a spring day. The Louvre Museum houses iconic works such as the Mona Lisa and is a must-visit.

If you’re a fan of Van Gogh, head to the Musée d’Orsay to admire his masterpieces and many others from the Impressionist era. While you’re there, take a break at their rooftop café and savor the mesmerizing views of the Seine and the city.

Springtime Events and Festivals

Ah, Paris in spring, where the cherry blossoms bloom and the city comes alive with events and festivals to suit all tastes! Let’s dive into a few must-experience celebrations during this beautiful season.

Easter Sunday

Paris takes its spring holidays seriously, and Easter is no exception. Traditional Easter egg hunts take place throughout the city, including the famous event at the Champ de Mars park near the Eiffel Tower.

Don’t forget to pick up a romantic gift for your loved one at one of the many charming chocolate shops, such as La Maison du Chocolat.

Public Parks and Gardens

Speaking of cherry blossoms, a visit to Paris in spring isn’t complete without spending a day at one of its stunning parks or gardens.

Check out the magnificent Jardin des Plantes or Parc de Sceaux to fully appreciate these gorgeous blooms. While you’re at it, grab a delicious croissant or pain au chocolat from a nearby bakery.

Festival Printemps des Rues

This street theatre festival takes place in May, celebrating arts and culture in Paris. Expect various performances ranging from theatre to music, all free and easily accessible.

Don’t miss strolling through the picturesque Canal Saint-Martin while enjoying your favorite street food!

Springtime in the City of Light

During the school holidays, many Parisians escape to the countryside, making it the perfect time for a more relaxed stroll along the Seine or climbing the steps of Montmartre for a stunning view.

Top it off with a meal at a cozy bistro, like Le Comptoir du Relais, and take in the city’s laid-back ambiance.

So there you have it – just a taste of some wonderful events and festivals you can expect when visiting Paris in the spring! Enjoy your trip and make unforgettable memories in this magical city.

Off-the-Beaten-Path Spring Experiences

Visiting Paris in spring is a fantastic idea, but instead of only hitting the typical tourist spots, let’s explore some off-the-beaten-path experiences!

Here are four fantastic lesser-known ways to make the most of your time in Paris this spring.

Discover hidden parks and gardens: If you’re looking for a serene escape from the bustling city streets, check out the charming Montmartre Vineyard (Vignes du Clos), the last remaining vineyard in Paris, right in the heart of Montmartre.

Enjoy walking around the picturesque vine-covered hill and indulge in some fresh seasonal produce from local markets like Marché Bastille or Marché d’Aligre.

Experience unique springtime activities: Instead of only visiting the usual spring events, dive into the local culture with some truly Parisian experiences.

For example, explore vintage flea markets or join a local culinary tour to taste authentic French cuisine, including lots of delicious cheese and wine. Trust me, your taste buds will thank you!

Embark on day trips from Paris: A short train ride away, you can visit the stunning Palace of Versailles, a must-see historical attraction filled with opulent architecture, art, and gardens.

Don’t forget to pack your camera – those Instagram-worthy shots won’t take themselves!

Get lost in charming neighborhoods: While we all know about popular neighborhoods like Montmartre and Marais, look deeper into the heart of Paris for vibrant, lesser-known areas.

Explore these hidden gems and find cute little cafes and restaurants to enjoy a typically French meal, while basking in the ambiance of a quiet, local spot.

With these experiences in mind, go ahead and make your memorable Parisian spring getaway even more extraordinary. Enjoy the enchanting city and its little-known attractions at a refreshing pace, falling in love with the lesser-explored side of Paris.

Practical Tips for Travelers

Ah, spring in Paris! It’s arguably the best season to visit the City of Lights. The weather is pleasant, flowers are blooming, and there’s an undeniable feeling of romance in the air.

If you’re heading to Paris in springtime, here are some practical tips to help you make the most of your trip.

Getting around Paris

The public transportation system in Paris is fantastic, and exploring the city by metro is quite efficient. In fact, using the Paris metro is probably going to be your most efficient option for getting around the city.

However, spring is a beautiful time of year to stroll the streets of Paris on foot. Consider joining a walking tour to get a sense of the different neighborhoods and their unique ambiance.

And, if you have a full day to spare, you can even rent a bike or take advantage of the city’s bike-sharing program.

Due to the amount of traffic in the city, I’d avoid taxing taxis/Ubers to get around, unless you’re going longer distances (like to and from the airport). Ubers here can be quite expensive, and oftentimes they take longer than a trip would take via metro.

Accommodation tips – Best areas to stay

When choosing a place to stay, keep in mind that different neighborhoods offer different experiences.

For instance, staying near the Eiffel Tower provides easy access to iconic landmarks, while Montmartre offers a more bohemian and artistic vibe.

For the best Eiffel Tower views, check out Hôtel Le Walt, and for a lovely stay in Montmartre, consider the Terass” Hotel.

Money-saving tips

Paris can be expensive, but there are ways to save money during your visit.

Consider purchasing the Paris Pass for discounts on public transportation and entry to popular museums and attractions. Make sure to also keep an eye out for special offers at restaurants and events.

💡 Tip: When it comes to eating on a budget in Paris, the city has a ton of cheap restaurants with good food that you won’t have to spend an arm and a leg to enjoy.

Cultural etiquette and tips

When in Paris, do as the Parisians do. Learn key French phrases, and practice proper table manners at cafes and restaurants.

Parisians are known to be sticklers for privacy, so respect their boundaries and keep the volume of your conversations low when in public spaces.

Foodie heaven

Paris is a food lover’s paradise, and spring is an excellent time to explore different eateries and cuisines. Don’t miss the chance to attend a cooking class and learn to create your own French masterpieces.

Also, make time to relax at a charming outdoor café and indulge in some of the city’s favorite treats, like croissants and macarons.

Be prepared for a variety of weather conditions by packing layers and bringing a light raincoat and umbrella. Rest assured, the mild temperatures are generally quite comfortable for sightseeing.
